2000 SUNY Early Childhood Education Training Programs

New York State Child Care Educational Incentive Program (EIP)

The EIP is designed to provide scholarship money to child care providers to help them obtain the training and education they need to provide quality child care. It is funded by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services.

Eligibility Requirements include:

Awards are based on a priority point system, which is calculated based on income level, coursework, and a couple of additional priority areas.

Applicants may apply for undergraduate college credit bearing or non-credit bearing courses as well as pre-approved (by the EIP Criteria Review Board) credential, certificate, and individual accreditation assessment fees. There are maximum amounts one provider may access in any given EIP year.

 

Independent Study Program
Piloted in 1998, fully implemented in 1999, the Independent Study program is funded by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services and designed to provide another alternate training experience. Qualified providers purchase the study material which includes a study guide, videotape, and assignment book. After using the study materials, completing the chosen assignments, they are contacted by a Reviewer (early childhood specialist) who comments on assignments as well as deepens and/ or extends practice skills during the review process. Each Independent Study unit is designated two hours toward regulated training requirements.

Video Conference Training
Each month, a live satellite broadcast is provided on a child care topic. More than 80 sites carry the broadcast and provide co-trainer support. Video Conference training allows providers to learn from experts and other child care providers while networking with other professionals.
